Council of Yukon First Nations Grand Chief Peter Johnston is joined by Samson Hartland, Executive Director of the Yukon Chamber of Mines to talk about the future of resource development in the Yukon, NDP Leader Kate White stops by for a chat about 2020, lawyer and Indigenous rights advocate Victoria Fred shares her insights into the push for restorative justice, and Yukon's Deputy Premier Ranj Pillai drops by to talk economic development, energy, agriculture and much, much more.
Part I: Chat with NDP Leader Kate (The Great) White
Grand Chief Peter Johnston is joined by New Democratic Party Leader Kate White to talk about territorial politics, the possibility of an election in 2020, the state of Yukon’s tourism industry, territorial health care and much much more! Kate also tells us about the Whitehorse Connects, an important Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition initiative that is helping those living in poverty access services like haircuts, immunization, foot care and other health services that may not otherwise be accessible.

Part II: Economic Update with Minister Ranj Pillai
Grand Chief Peter Johnston connects with Ranj Pillai, Deputy Premier and Minister of Everything. The push for mining is top of mind after Roundup, so let’s talk about the Mineral Development Strategy and how the government is doing to build partnerships that connect communities to economic opportunities. Yukon First Nations have a lot of concerns about mining and the legacy of contaminated sites, so this is a great opportunity to explore the relationships and partnerships that will be key to the future of mining in the territory.

Victoria shares her experiences navigating the realities of moving towards restorative justice, advancing a modern approach to justice that respects traditional values, consultation and the pursuit of community stability.
