Shot in the Dark
Council of Yukon First Nations Grand Chief Peter Johnston kicks off a New Year of New Normal with a new vaccine, plenty of optimism and a powerhouse lineup of special guests. Joining Grand Chief is the Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Brendan Hanley, Minister of Health and Social Services Pauline Frost, Grand Chief of the Gwich'in Tribal Council Ken Smith, Yukon Mineral Development Strategy panelist Mathieya Alatini, iconic Canadian Mining Hall of Famer Jerry Asp, and two very special guest elders – Margaret Mackay and Mark Wedge – share their journey in insight into the "How We Walk with the Land and Water" initiative.
Part I: Dr. Hanley: This is Our Shot, Let's Take It!
Grand Chief Peter Johnston welcomes Dr. Brendan Hanley, Yukon's Chief Medical Officer of Health for an update on all things COVID and a closer look at the historic rollout of the Moderna vaccine in Yukon. Logistics, science, politics and education are all a factor as Dr. Hanley shares his perspective on the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Part II: Jerry Asp: The Power of Understanding
Grand Chief Peter Johnston welcomes Jerry Asp, a powerful voice for the Tahltan Nation and a pioneer for the inclusion of Indigenous peoples in Canada's mining industry. Recently inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame, Jerry explains how things have changed since the difficult early days, and talks about how important of positive relationships and understanding one another will be for the future of mining in Canada.

Part III: Grand Chief Smith: Following Our Path
Grand Chief Peter Johnston welcomes Ken Smith, newly-elected Grand Chief of the Gwich'in Tribal Council to talk about his objectives and priorities for 2021. Along with preservation and protection of the land, language and culture, Grand Chief Smith is mindful of the path to economic recovery for communities and businesses in the Gwich'in Settlement Area.

Grand Chief Peter Johnston connects with Kwanlin Dün First Nation Elder Margaret MacKay and Carcross/Tagish First Nation Elder Mark Wedge to talk about the important work to advance the Indigenous Land Relationship Plan entitled "How We Walk with the Land and Water."

Part V: Final Chapter: Panel Releases Historic YMDS
Grand Chief Peter Johnston welcomes Mathieya Alatini back to the show for an update on the Yukon Mineral Development Strategy and her important work to engage with Yukoners as a member of the independent YMDS panel. Alatini shares her experience and provides insight into the six strategic priorities and 79 recommendations at the core of the final draft released on December 28.

Part I: Minister Frost: Vaccine Schedule Ready to Go
Grand Chief Peter Johnston connects with Pauline Frost, Minister of Health and Social Services, to talk about the vaccine rollout in Yukon and the groundwork ahead. As the Government of Yukon attempts to reach its vaccination target of 75% of the adult population, Minister Frost knows there will be hesitancy and logistical hurdles, but remains confident the territorial plan offers a solid and timely path forward for the delivery of vaccines in communities.
