Anniversary Rock
On the 47th Anniversary of Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow, Council of Yukon First Nations Grand Chief Peter Johnston is honoured to welcome back former Grand Chief Ed Shultz along with Judy Gingell, former Chair of the Council of Yukon Indians, as well as Dave Joe, the first Yukon First Nations lawyer in our history. Together again, our special guests share their unforgettable stories about the historic events that led to Self Government – stories of courage, struggle, sacrifice and celebration in their journey to build a brighter future for Yukon First Nations.
Part I: Ed Schultz: A New Beginning
Former Grand Chief Ed Schultz reflects on the inspirational journey of those who fought to make Self-Government a reality, and those who have been working so hard to make progress happen ever since. This powerful interview reveals how personal and professional turmoil evolved into the pursuit of common ground, historic partnerships and a new beginning for Yukon First Nations.
Part II: Judy Gingell, Ed Schultz: That Historic Day
Grand Chief Peter Johnston is joined by former Grand Chiefs Ed Schultz and Judy Gingell for a look at historic events and experiences that set the stage for land claims and Self-Government in the Yukon Territory. Three Grand Chiefs discuss the motivation and inspiration behind the negotiations and how the challenges faced over the course of Yukon First Nation history have led to the opportunities and successes of modern-day Yukon.
Part III: The First Principles Project
Grand Chief Peter Johnston welcomes former federal negotiator Tim Koepke and Jocelyn Joe Strack of the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations to talk about the First Principles Project, an initiative dedicated to raising awareness of the principles contained in the historic Umbrella Final Agreement. As implementation continues today, this project invites us all to rediscover the spirit and intent of the UFA, and reflect on the foundational principles that kept negotiations moving forward.
Part IV: Dave Joe: The Pursuit of Justice is Next
Grand Chief Peter Johnston welcomes special guest Dave Joe to the studio, one of the most prominent figures in the settlement of our historic Land Claims and Self-Government Agreements. Dave, a Champagne and Aishihik First Nations citizen and former Executive Director of The Native Brotherhood, humbly reflects on past challenges and progress, and talks about the present and future of agreement implementation, with particular focus on justice, lawmaking, the prospect of a First Nations Court and the possibility of building First Nation-led enforcement capacity.
